A Perfect Morning
Rainstorm and kittens. What else have I ever wanted? Snuggled in bed between a black kitten and a gray tabby, I listen to the rain. they listen too, and yawn, and stretch. Neither hot nor cold, but perfectly perfect. The windows are open so that we can hear it and smell it. Early morning cloud burst and purr fest. Yes, please, thank you.
Coffee and cat food eventually, still listening to the rain as we go. More kittens join my entourage. Four little kittens line up at their dishes; four teacup saucers, blue and gold pattern. The cat joins us warily. She’d prefer to dine alone. I eat a scone that contains candied orange peel. The rain stops, but the garden beyond the screen sends us fragrant greetings.
I get to work drawing dandelions, still drinking the coffee slowly. They’re more work than I thought. Time changes shape as I focus, entering the tunnel of concentration. I emerge much later than anticipated, all stems and leaves without flowers. It’s cooler now without the rain. I take a break for chai and put on a soft rumpled black trench coat.
Please “heart” this post if you liked it so that more people can discover Jellied Gold on Substack. I’d love to hear from you in the comments. Oh yeah, and if you haven’t already…
